Change smoke alarm batteries when you ‘spring forward’

Posted by & filed under Uncategorized.

As long as you’re resetting all the clocks in your building to reflect Daylight Savings Time on March 9, make a note to change the batteries in all your smoke detectors.

clockThe National Fire Protection Association reminds everyone this is a good time to perform maintenance on your smoke alarms and, if you have them, carbon monoxide detectors.

To stay safe, replacing batteries in all smoke alarms should be done at least once a year, but changing them while changing all of your clocks serves as a great reminder. In addition, smoke alarms should be tested once a month.

Fire detectors are available for residential, commercial and industrial use. A number of different models are available, including smoke, flame and gas detectors.

Installing a smoke-detection system composed of a combination of different types of detectors will probably serve to give the earliest warning of a fire.
